My Purse Must-Haves & A Gratitude Practice
It's no secret that I am a total designer bag fiend. Over the years I have perfected the size of the bag I need, as well as it's contents. For example, if my full size iPad doesn't fit in my purse, then there's a good chance it won't work for me. I typically need at least my iPad and my planner for business meetings. Also, my Macbook Air isn't much larger than my iPad - so if my iPad fits, I can usually fit my laptop in my purse if I absolutely need it.
Journey of an Anxious Christian
Do you know those parts in the bible when they say: be anxious for nothing; let your heart not be troubled; trust in the Lord; and fear not for I am with you? I had always thought those words to be meant to comfort me in times in times of struggle. However, when I found myself with a full blown anxiety disorder, I looked to the church for guidance and was surprised at the response. In short, I was told that being anxious was a sin because it meant that I was not trusting in the Lord.
A Note About Being 2nd Generation Mexican-American
This post comes as a result of growing up a light skinned Mexican American and after many conversations with close friends and family members of similar heritage. When #blacklivesmatter started trending, I set out to understand the struggles of African Americans and figure out what I could do to help. I was surprised to see that in some documentaries and articles, the black and brown struggle were grouped into the same plight.
Texas State Parks: Mustang Island, Garner, and Big Bend Ranch
Perhaps one of the best investments for my family has been the Texas State Parks pass. For $70/year we get admission waived anytime we want to visit a park for the day and discounted camping rates. As part of our family resolution to retreat more - I booked us at Mustang Island in November, Garner in February, and most recently Big Bend Ranch in March.
Which Is Worse: Jean Shopping or Swimsuit Shopping?
Which is more stressful - shopping for new jeans or shopping for a new bathing suit? Most of my friends answered that bathing suit shopping was worse but I have to argue that jean shopping is just as nerve wracking. Oh, how I miss the days when I knew without stepping foot into a dressing room that any medium sized American Eagle outfit would fit me. These days, it's a sad occasion when your trusty blue jeans or swimsuit are simply too worn out to wear in public. I literally have to give myself a pep talk about going shopping. This is where my weakness for designer handbags really comes into play - bags always fit!
How To: Pack Light And Travel Easy, Even With Kids!
Last Summer the whole family and I went on a week long vacation to beautiful Monterey, California. It was an amazing trip, but it was the last time I will ever check my bags on any airline.
Date Night at The Pearl in San Antonio!
For my husband's birthday this year, I was determined to plan the perfect date night. At first, this task seemed easier said than done. You see, it was his birthday so our regular dinner and a movie wouldn't do. We have a great local music scene but my husband is deaf in one ear so, any concert or loud venue is typically not enjoyable for him. Also, my husband is the type who does not like to spend money, least of all on himself. So what's a wife to do?
Bible Studies: Where To Start and How To Keep Going
I've been on somewhat of a spiritual journey over the past year or so. It all started with a personal challenge during Lent of 2015. I was raised Catholic and my husband Methodist. At the time, neither one of us were really connecting with our current denominations. I was determined to find a new church home for my family.
Summer Road Trip Part Two: KOA vs. State Park
In my last post I shared about the two family reunions and vintage camper find that led up to our big Summer road trip. My husband and two boys drove round trip from New Braunfels, TX to Boise, ID.
Summer Road Trip Part One: Family Reunions
My husband and I often fondly compare our extended paternal families. Specifically, they both have awesome reunions every few years that come complete with themed t-shirts and even a talent show. Yes, we’re that kind of family – twice. Sometimes I can’t even believe how incredibly lucky we are to belong to both clans. Needless to say, our time spent with each side is cherished. With one family in Kansas and the other clear up in Idaho, imagine our panic when we found out that both family reunions would be this July – one weekend right after the other.
Review: Field & Stream Wilderness Lodge 6
Before our camping trip to Dinosaur Valley State Park, we upgraded from our basic 4 person pole tent to the Field & Stream Wilderness Lodge 6. My husband and I both grew up camping, so we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted in a family tent. Mainly though, we just needed more space for all of us to sleep comfortably.
Dinosaur Valley State Park
A few weeks ago the family and I loaded up to go camp at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas. This park is known for having fossilized dinosaur tracks on the river banks. Boy had we been looking forward to this trip! My 8 year old is a dinosaur connoisseur of sorts and has been dying to go ever since he heard about it last year.
Hometown Disillusionment - New Braunfels, Texas
It's no secret I moved around a lot when I was younger. But to my memory there was no sweeter a time than growing up and being a teenager in New Braunfels. From early morning taco runs before school to late afternoon floats on the river after school, I have many fun memories. Even though my family ended up moving to Kansas around college age, I always said that when it was time to settle down with my own family I would come back to New Braunfels.
Hello World!
Except not really, more like hello my one or two readers. But still, hello! Pardon my blank space as I get this whole thing up and running.
